Carl Surran, Senior Editor
Carl Surran is a Senior Editor for InCharge Education Foundation. His primary duties are as Managing Editor of MILITARY MONEY, a family-oriented magazine targeted to active-duty military personnel and their spouses, and its companion website, www.militarymoney.com.
MILITARY MONEY was created with the assistance of the National Military Family Association as part of the Department of Defense's Financial Literacy Campaign, and is supported by the office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy. Carl also completes a number of other editorial assignments, including grant applications, press releases and information booklets.
Carl brings more than 12 years' experience in financial publishing to the position. Before joining the InCharge team, he was Editor-in-Chief at FinancialWeb.com, an investment-oriented website that attracted up to six million monthly page views.
He previously held managerial roles at Sound Money Investors, Inc., where he was Editor-in-Chief for two monthly financial magazines, and Strategic Communications, Inc. Additionally, he was a financial consultant at UBS Paine Webber and American Express, and served as an aide to U.S. Senator Paula Hawkins (R-Fla.)
Carl received a bachelor's degree in history from Duke University and an MBA from the Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. He is married and has one daughter.
